What matters

Electrics are planned from the switchboard, lighting in layers.

Each group gets its own circuit, with a breaker sized to the cable cross-section, not to the appliance power: the breaker protects the cable. Bathroom, kitchen and outdoor circuits go through a 30 mA RCD. Sockets, switches and frames are best taken from one series for the whole site — that makes adding and replacing pieces easier.

Lighting in a room is planned in layers: general, task and accent. In the kitchen the work area above the worktop is lit by a separate circuit — strip in a profile or a linear luminaire under the cabinets.

Engineering calculation

Which breaker and cable the line needs

Enter the power, supply and line length to get the design current, breaker rating, copper cable cross-section and voltage drop.

Indicative: copper in a wall or conduit, cos φ 0.95, C characteristic, voltage drop up to 5% for power circuits and up to 3% for lighting. The final choice follows the project and the wiring regulations (PUE), allowing for the installation method and temperature.

Questions

About residential electrics.

Which breaker goes on a socket circuit?
Usually C16 on a 2.5 mm² copper circuit. The rating is chosen for the cable cross-section, not the appliance power — the calculator above will check your circuit.
Where is an RCD needed?
On the bathroom, kitchen and outdoor circuits and on all sockets where contact with water is possible: a 30 mA RCD disconnects the circuit if current leaks.
Do you work with renovation crews and developers?
Yes. We kit out a site to specification in batches and ship to your warehouse or site, with an invoice for your accounts.
